Decoding the Disney Treasure Map
On Tuesday, September 5, the Disney Parks Blog hosted a livestream reveal event called “Unlocking The Disney Treasure: Adventure Awaits Onboard Disney’s Newest Ship”. There was a lot of anticipation for this presentation because several days earlier, marketing materials were widely distributed and the treasure map below made its way around social media, which presumably gave us hints about what would be featured on Disney Cruise Line’s new Triton class ship.

Prior to the livestream, I spent a considerable amount of time studying each of the images myself and making guesses about what they could mean, but it was also fun seeing online what other people had come up with. I thought the Treasure map was a brilliant idea and I can’t wait to hopefully get my hands on a copy to frame for my office.
The livestream, which followed the journey of fictional explorer/adventurer, Arthur Quinn, on his quest to unlock the secrets of the Treasure map, was filled with more theatrics than it was new revelations, but we do now know what MOST of the images on the Treasure map represent. I’ll go through them one-by-one below.

Much of the information that we learned had already been shared by Disney Cruise Line or leaked by certain bloggers, but it was fun to match the spaces that we learned about with the “clues” that were given to us on the Treasure map. Let’s dive in.
The Grand Hall

At the center of the Treasure map is an image of the Sultan’s palace from the movie, Aladdin. We knew from a previous reveal by the Disney Parks Blog that Aladdin, Jasmine, and Carpet would be the feature statue in the Grand Hall and that the Grand Hall would embody the ship’s theme of adventure, with décor that calls on the gilded palace and wonder of Agrabah. And if there was ever any doubt, the image’s location at the center of the map was also a dead giveaway. The fireworks could hint at special performances and presentations they have planned for the Grand Hall.
Worlds of Marvel

Based on the images of Cap’s shield and the Quantum Core, I assumed it meant that the Treasure would also feature a Worlds of Marvel main dining restaurant, but I was REALLY hoping it meant something else. I am not a fan of repeat spaces, especially restaurants, but Worlds of Marvel was confirmed for the Treasure. They did, however, tease Spider-Man in the video, so it appears that, at a minimum, we’ll get a new/updated story to follow, which, I suppose, is an acceptable consolation. It was also communicated by Disney executives that the restaurant will feature TWO shows due to the 7-night cruise itineraries.
AquaMouse: Curse of the Golden Egg

There was a lot of speculation about what the pyramid at the top of the map could represent. It was revealed that a new experience, inspired by the Mickey Mouse animated short, the “Temple of the Golden Egg”, would be added to Disney Cruise Line’s water attraction at sea. We also learned from Pam Rawlins, Walt Disney Imagineering Executive Producer, during a Q&A onboard the Wish, that the show would NOT be exclusive to the Treasure and will also be added to the rotation on the Wish.
Jumbeaux’s Sweets

When I first saw the map, I was excited to see that a family-favorite movie, Zooptopia, would be represented on the new ship. Jumbeaux is an elephant that owns an ice cream parlor in the movie, so it seems like a natural fit for the sweet shop on the upper deck of the Disney Treasure. The shop will feature sculptures of Officer Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde and will offer more than 35 flavors of handmade gelato, ice cream and sorbets, specialty treats, candies and more. I love the theme, but my family doesn’t spend much time in this space, so I don’t think we’ll get much enjoyment from it.
Beauty and the Beast

Of all the announcements, this one shocked me the most. The Brodway-style production, Beauty and the Beast, will be performed in the Walt Disney Theater aboard the Disney Treasure.
Regarding the images above, the outdoor amphitheater image from the Treasure map was one that had me the most puzzled. I had no idea what it could represent, but based on the livestream video, the image was meant to represent the theater itself. You may also notice that the image above is the Walt Disney theater on the Wish. This is because they have not yet shared an artist’s rendering with us of the Treasure’s theater. And finally, most (including me) speculated that the images of Lumiere and Cogsworth on the Treasure map were meant to represent Enchanté, so it was a big surprise to learn this news instead.
This announcement was shocking to me because it feels like such a bad fit. When Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular was announced for the Wish, I was bummed that they were repeating a show. I’m equally bummed that they will be repeating a show for the Treasure, but WHY would they not have switched these?? Beauty and the Beast, which is an AMAZING show, would work SO well with the Wish’s “enchantment” theme, and Aladdin: a Musical Spectacular would have fit in perfectly with the Agrabah-inspired Grand Hall just steps from the Walt Disney Theater. This feels like such a miss considering the talent and skills of the Disney Cruise Line creative teams.
Also revealed: Disney Seas the Adventure, the cabaret-style stage production that debuted on the Wish, will also be making its way to the Walt Disney Theater aboard the Disney Treasure.
Festival of Foods

This one was pretty obvious. Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods is very popular on the Disney Wish (and for good reason!), so it came as no surprise to see it scheduled for the Treasure.
Tomorrow Tower Suite

When we first got a glimpse of the Treasure map, it was obvious to wonder “why is there an image of Spaceship Earth on the Treasure”? I think most people assumed this would be the theme for the new ship’s tower suite, which has now been confirmed. It doesn’t sound like anything is going to point specifically to Epcot or Spaceship Earth except for the futuristic/modern design (and that chandelier!!), but the Disney Parks Blog later confirmed that Figment will be posing in various hiding places and that Imagineers will place a special sculpture at the base of the Tomorrow Tower Suite’s spiral staircase that honors the iconic EPCOT landmark, Spaceship Earth. The sculpture will bring the spirit of EPCOT to life when guests enter the suite through music and lighting effects.
Skipper Society

The Skipper Society, inspired by the Jungle Cruise attraction, will be the lounge just steps from the Grand Hall. I was thinking that the Jungle Cruise would be a cool theme for a re-designed AquaMouse, but I didn’t expect DCL to make a change that would be that drastic. I actually love this idea for the lounge and it sounds like there will be a lot of really neat nods to the attraction within the decor, including a jungle boat name of its own! Imagineers will dub the vessel housing the bar “Ems Empress” after the Ems River where the Disney Treasure will make her first voyage to sea.
Periscope Pub

Sticking with the theme of parks attractions being brought onboard, the Periscope Pub is going to make you feel like you’ve stepped aboard the Nautilus from the classic attraction, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage. I think this is going to be a really cool space, with the glass overhead giving you a view out into the ocean (and maybe even an appearance by the giant squid?).
I like this theme, but I think a better one would have been Pirates of the Caribbean. After all, it is a cruise ship called the “Treasure” sailing to the Caribbean. They could have made it look like the inside of the Black Pearl, or if they wanted to stick with the theme park idea, they could have used the Pirates of the Caribbean ride for inspiration. The fact that there’s no dedicated space for Pirates of the Caribbean on this ship seems like a big missed opportunity.
Sarabi

Sarabi is the versatile lounge that will replace Luna. Inspired by the Disney classic, The Lion King, Sarabi will be home to musical performances, comedy acts, and family game shows during the day, but will become an adult-exclusive venue with live entertainment at night. I love this movie and generally love everything that Disney has done with the Lion King theme throughout its theme parks and resorts. I was really excited to see this movie represented on the Treasure and Sarabi reminds me a little bit of the Harambe Theater at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Plaza de Coco

This was a space that was leaked prior to DCL’s official announcement, but I’m really excited for this restaurant. Plaza de Coco is a Coco-themed restaurant set in the colorful fictional plaza of Santa Cecilia. It will be a theatrical dining experience, similar to Arendelle on the Wish, Tiana’s Place on the Wonder, and Rapunzel’s Royal Table on the Magic, featuring the flavors of Mexico. There will be two different shows to experience on the 7-night voyages – one where Miguel and the town mariachis will sing and dance, and another that will transform the plaza into a Dia de los Muertos celebration with Mama Coco.
While the movie is not a huge hit in my household, we did enjoy it and I think the music, colors, and dancing are going to make it a really fun atmosphere. I’m also a HUGE fan of Mexican food, so I am very excited about this dining experience!
Other Confirmed Clues from the Treasure Map

Here are a few other clues from the map, which have been confirmed either on the Parks Blog livestream or on the Disney Cruise Line website:
1. Hooks Barbery – For cuts and shaves fit for a captain, complete with a full bar and specialty whiskies.
2. The Oceaneer Club – There will be no changes to this space from what is included on the Wish, including the Marvel Superhero Academy, Fairytale Hall, Star Wars: Cargo Bay, the Walt Disney Imagineering Lab, Mickey & Minnie’s Captain’s Deck, and the “it’s a small world” nursery.
3. The Treasure will feature two walkup cafes for a coffee, snack, or tea on the go. The Jade Cricket Cafe takes inspiration from the movie Mulan and the Hei Hei Cafe will take a tropical cue from Moana’s isle of Motunui. Side note – this better not be the only Moana representation on the ship!
4. The Rose is a repeat cocktail lounge with sweeping ocean views reminiscent of the enchanted castle from Beauty and the Beast.
5. The Slide-a-Saurus Rex family slide, along with the Toy Story Splash Zone will return to the pool deck of the Disney Treasure
6. Let down your hair at the Untangled Salon with a range of upscale manicures, pedicures, and hairstyling services.
Unknown Clues
None of these images have been officially discussed, but I’ve included my guesses of what they might represent below:

Nothing was mentioned about the “Cave of Wonders” during the livestream, but I am guessing it is a hint at some Aladdin-themed staterooms.

This is a blurry image because it’s so small on the map, but I believe this is an image from Alice in Wonderland. The two movie theaters on the Treasure will have the same themes as the ones on the Wish – the Wonderland and Never Land Cinemas.

I was very excited to hear about the representation from the movie Up, but we haven’t heard anything official. I believe this will be one of the stateroom themes, along with Pocahontas, Aladdin, and Encanto.

This is an image of Olaf, but I have heard NOTHING about how Frozen will be incorporated. If you’ve heard or have a guess, please let me know!

This looks like the mermaid lagoon from The Little Mermaid. Perhaps this will be a theme of the Senses Spa?

I am assuming this X-Wing from Star Wars is meant to represent the Cargo Bay in the Oceaneer’s Club. We know for sure that the Hyperspace Lounge will not be on the Treasure and I do not expect there to be any other Star Wars representation.

The Hero Zone will be returning to the Disney Treasure and this image from The Incredibles is meant to represent the Incredi-course.

We know that this image represents the Bagheera (from Disney’s The Jungle Book) Royal Suites, one of two Disney big cat themes from the movies. The other will be Raja, the tiger from Disney’s Aladdin.

I assume this image is meant to represent the pool deck, which will include 10 pools, water play areas, the Toy Story spaces, and the Quiet Cove pool for the adults.
Remaining Mysteries
At the D23 Expo in September 2022, Josh D’Amaro shared a teaser video of the Disney Treasure, which featured four main characters: Peter Pan, Miguel from Coco, Moana, and the Hitchhiking Ghosts. We know that Peter Pan and Captain hook are featured on the stern of the Disney Treasure and we’ve learned about Miguel in the Plaza de Coco restaurant, but we have not officially heard ANYTHING significant about Moana or the Hitchhiking Ghosts.
We assume that the space that occupies the Hyperspace Lounge on the Wish will be Haunted Mansion-themed on the Treasure, but the only thing that has been revealed or leaked about Moana is the walkup cafe. I would hope they didn’t feature Moana in the teaser video only to give us a small cafe, but it remains to be seen what will happen with those two characters and their respective themes. I can’t wait to find out!
